Artistic Statement

Under Tension: Where the Structure Breathes exists at the intersection of engineering and dance. Inspired by the principles of design, construction, and structural systems, the work investigates both the physical and emotional processes involved in bringing a structure to life.

The choreography examines how pressure, support, balance, and adaptation operate within built environments and human relationships alike. Through the interaction of bodies, space, and structure, the dancers embody forces of tension and release, stability and uncertainty, resistance and transformation.

Influenced by Abdul Sanz's dual background in dance and civil engineering, the work challenges traditional boundaries between disciplines and reveals the shared language that exists between movement and construction. Ultimately, the piece asks audiences to consider what allows structures—and people—to endure under pressure.
