THE RIGHT TO WALK AWAY
2026 | Duet | 4.5 Minutes
Co-created & danced with David Parmegiani
Artistic Statement
The Right to Walk Away explores the complexities of relationships formed through family and blood ties. While these relationships often carry expectations of loyalty, obligation, and unconditional support, they can also become sources of pain, exhaustion, and emotional conflict.
Through physical partnership, resistance, and moments of separation, the duet investigates the tension between responsibility and self-preservation. The dancers navigate cycles of support, dependence, confrontation, and release, reflecting the difficult choices individuals face when relationships become harmful.
The work ultimately asks an important question: How much of ourselves do we owe to others? While acknowledging the value of family and connection, The Right to Walk Away affirms the right to establish boundaries and choose personal well-being when relationships become unsustainable.
