Artistic Statement

Shades is a celebration of individuality and an examination of how skin color influences lived experience. Through movement, the work reflects on the ways society perceives, categorizes, and responds to difference, while acknowledging that no two experiences are identical.

Rather than offering a singular narrative, Shades presents a collection of perspectives that highlight both shared humanity and unique personal realities. The choreography explores visibility, identity, privilege, prejudice, and belonging, ultimately affirming the beauty and complexity found within diversity.

At its core, Shades asks audiences to consider how perception shapes interaction and how understanding can emerge through empathy and dialogue.
